{"id":836,"date":"2012-12-03T15:32:57","date_gmt":"2012-12-03T21:32:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.drivertrainingassociates.com\/blog\/?p=836"},"modified":"2012-12-03T15:32:57","modified_gmt":"2012-12-03T21:32:57","slug":"advanced-driver-improvement-are-senior-drivers-really-better","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.drivertrainingassociates.com\/blog\/advanced-driver-improvement-are-senior-drivers-really-better\/","title":{"rendered":"Advanced Driver Improvement &#8211; Are Senior Drivers Really Better?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Today show this morning had a story about senior drivers that I wanted to share.\u00a0 You will be surprised to see where our country&#8217;s fastest growing age group ranks when it comes to safety behind the wheel (click\u00a0here to see the full video: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/21134540\/vp=50054815&amp;#50054815\">Driver Improvement for Seniors?<\/a> ).\u00a0\u00a0The story included various reasons for the older driver&#8217;s improvements in safety statistics which include: 1.\u00a0 most seniors don&#8217;t drink and drive 2. infrequency for night driving due to vision issues 3. tendency to drive at or below the speed limit.\u00a0\u00a0Another great point that was made by a senior driver in the\u00a0video was his\u00a0attitude and frame of mind while driving.\u00a0\u00a0He said that the most important thing is to be patient.\u00a0\u00a0That lesson seems simple, but it is advice\u00a0that all drivers can be reminded.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t be in a hurry and don&#8217;t let the actions of others throw you into a state\u00a0that might have you taking\u00a0chances behind the wheel that\u00a0could result in a traffic ticket or a crash.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Mature Driver Course<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hearing this story made me think of all the great information that is included in a <a title=\"Florida Mature Driver Course\" href=\"http:\/\/www.drivertrainingassociates.com\/florida\/mature-driver-course-fl.html\" target=\"_blank\">mature driver course<\/a>.\u00a0 Not every state has them, but if your state does (i.e. Florida), I would highly recommend them.\u00a0 They are roughly six hours long in most states and can be taken online or in an live class by drivers age 55 and older.\u00a0 They are a\u00a0great way for senior drivers to receive a refresher about the imporant rules, regulations, and\u00a0responsible strategies that can help\u00a0on the roadways.\u00a0 Mature drivers take these courses to be eligible for auto insurance discounts from participating insurance companies or just for safety training purposes.\u00a0 And don&#8217;t think that driver improvement is only for the older driver.\u00a0 All drivers should consider taking a defensive driving course (a.k.a.\u00a0traffic school or driver improvement course)\u00a0for safety training,\u00a0to save money on your auto insurance, or for a traffic ticket.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t forget that driving is a skill that needs sharpening, so be proactive about your driving safety,\u00a0and remember the attitude taken by the older driver in this story on the Today show the next time someone cuts your off or frustrates you while driving.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Today show this morning had a story about senior drivers that I wanted to share.\u00a0 You will be surprised to see where our country&#8217;s fastest growing age group ranks when it comes to safety behind the wheel (click\u00a0here to see the full video: Driver Improvement for Seniors?
