{"id":281,"date":"2009-03-27T14:49:13","date_gmt":"2009-03-27T20:49:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/drivertrainingassociates.com\/blog\/?p=281"},"modified":"2009-03-31T07:36:27","modified_gmt":"2009-03-31T13:36:27","slug":"texas-defensive-driving-online","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.drivertrainingassociates.com\/blog\/texas-defensive-driving-online\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas Defensive Driving Online"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Defensive driving courses in Texas started out\u00a0for insurance discount purposes only.\u00a0 Eventually, it was\u00a0written in the law where Texas drivers had the option to take a TEA approved driver safety course\u00a0(a.k.a. defensive driving)\u00a0to keep a traffic ticket off of their driving record.\u00a0 The benefit to\u00a0selecting this option is that it\u00a0keeps users from accumulating points which can cost them significantly financially in the event of multiple tickets or accidents in the form of\u00a0DPS or insurance surcharges.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Before I get into the benefits of online courses, there are a\u00a02 main\u00a0falsehoods that need to be cleared up\u00a0about online defensive driving courses in Texas:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Online courses are NOT shorter in length than classroom courses.\u00a0 All defensive driving courses in Texas (classroom or online) are 6 hours in duration by law.<\/li>\n<li>The completion certificate for online courses\u00a0CANNOT be printed out immediately upon completion.\u00a0 This is a common misconception.\u00a0 Texas law requires that all original completion certificates\u00a0 be\u00a0processed from the course provider.\u00a0 The certificates can be express delivered (0vernight, etc.), but they cannot be printed upon completion of the course, faxed, or picked up by the student.\u00a0 This also means that if you take classroom course you will not get the certificate immediately after finishing the class.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Why take a Texas defensive driving course online?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are a host of reasons\u00a0why thousands of drivers across Texas are choosing to take their Texas defensive driving course\u00a0online\u00a0over the traditional live classroom course.\u00a0\u00a0 Here are the most popular reasons:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Convenience &#8211; Depending upon your schedule, online courses can be significantly more\u00a0convenient in that they can be taken from any computer that has\u00a0access to the Internet, as well as anytime (24 hours by 7 days a week).\u00a0 Classroom based courses have\u00a0traditionally been offered on weekends (usually Saturdays) where the student completes all 6 hours in one day.\u00a0 Some classroom courses offer weeknight classes (3 hours per night).\u00a0 The\u00a0scheduling convenience that the online courses provide\u00a0is extremely important to\u00a0those \u00a0people\u00a0with schedules that\u00a0require them to\u00a0take the course during odd hours, or on days when a classroom course may not be scheduled.<\/li>\n<li>Flexibility &#8211; As mentioned above, all Texas defensive driving courses approved by the State for traffic ticket dismissal purposes are 6 hours in duration.\u00a0 The difference being that online you will be given login access so that you can log in or out of the course as needed.\u00a0 This allows you to work your way through the course at your own pace, rather than having to take all 6 hours in one sitting.\u00a0 The online courses will automatically save your progress and so the next time you log into the course it will pick up on the last page you left off on.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The key to making the choice is knowing yourself.\u00a0 Are you the type of person that will never finish the course unless forced to sit in a room with a live instructor for 6 hours on a Saturday afternoon?\u00a0 Or would you prefer to have the option to log in and out at your convenience from any computer with access to the Internet?\u00a0 The choice is yours, but now hopefully you can make a more informed decision.\u00a0 Be safe out there!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Trying to decide the best way to complete a Texas defensive driving course?
