Texas Drug and Alcohol Driving Awareness Program (DADAP) Course Details

The Texas Drug and Alcohol Driving Awareness Program (DADAP) was developed by Driver Training Associates, Inc. to provide drivers with a comprehensive overview of the damaging effects that alcohol and drugs can have on a person's mind and body, and how these effects lead to dangerous and often deadly driving situations. The DADAP course also addresses several Texas laws that relate to the use of alcohol and other drugs while driving. DTA's DADAP course is the only DADAP course that teaches how traffic risks can be avoided through the proper understanding of a driver's attitude states.

Who Can Take the DADAP Course?

The DADAP course is required by certain courts when an individual has been convicted of an alcohol and / or traffic related offense. Texas law authorizes attendance of a DADAP course for satisfaction of several different types of offenses. A Texas driver can also take the DSC course voluntarily for a 3-year automobile insurance discount of up to 5%.

NOTE:
Drivers who voluntarily attend BOTH a DSC course and a DADAP course may be eligible to receive a total insurance discount of 15%.

NOTE:
The DADAP course cannot be taken for ticket dismissal. Drivers who wish to take a course for ticket dismissal should attend a Driving Safety Course instead.

What Does the DADAP Course Teach?

The DADAP course teaches participants about the dangers of driving after drinking or taking drugs and the harmful effects these substances can have on the human body and mind. The course also explains several Texas traffic laws (especially those pertaining to the use of alcohol or drugs while driving) and explores traffic safety concepts through the use of DTA's IPDE strategy for effective and risk-free driving.

DTA's DADAP course is the only Texas Drug and Alcohol Driving Awareness Program that teaches students how to control their emotions and attitudes through the understanding of the concept of Attitude States. Using Dr. Eric Berne's groundbreaking theory of Transactional Analysis (TA), the DADAP course teaches students that each of us has three Attitude States -- Parent, Adult, and Child -- that constantly influence our behavior. Learning how to identify these Attitude States is the key to controlling them, which can be critical during potentially hazardous activities such as driving a motor vehicle. Students learn that remaining in the Adult Attitude State is the best way to minimize their risk of a crash and to prepare for driving emergencies.
