Defensive Driving Course

You can gain valuable knowledge in driving safety concepts by taking Driver Training Associates' defensive driving course! The defensive driving course can also be used in other ways:

Ticket Dismissal

If you received a Texas traffic ticket, you can take the Texas defensive driving course to dismiss your ticket. In order to be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You have not completed an approved Texas defensive driving course (a/k/a driver safety course) within the 12 months preceding the date of the offense.
  • A plea of no contest or guilty has been submitted to the Texas court either in person or in writing on or before the date on the notice to appear.
  • You have a valid Texas Drivers License.
  • You were not charged with speeding in excess of 25 mph over the posted speed limit, speeding in a school zone, work zone, or a seat belt violation.
  • You have the ability to provide evidence of financial responsibility (proof of insurance).

Insurance Discount

Most Texas drivers don't know that one benefit of attending a defensive driving course is that they can receive an auto insurance discount. Most insurance providers in Texas offer a discount on insurance premiums for a 3 year period. We recommend that you contact your insurance carrier before taking the defensive driving course for insurance purposes only to find out their discount rates and proper procedures. In addition, the State of Texas allows you to take a defensive driving course once per year to dismiss a ticket. This allows those customers that have taken a defensive driving course for an insurance discount to take it again if they receive a ticket at a later date.
