Auto Insurance Discount

In many states, a driver can receive a discount on his or her automobile insurance premium by attending a State approved insurance discount (or traffic school / defensive driving) course. Some states (such as Florida) offer a standard auto insurance discount course that can be taken by drivers of any age, as well as a mature driver course that is restricted to drivers who are 55 and older.

NOTE: The information on this site ONLY refers to auto insurance discount courses that are available to the general public and are not restricted to specific age groups.

DTA offers both classroom and online auto insurance discount courses. Our classroom auto insurance discount courses are taught by professional instructors from many different fields, including law enforcement, insurance, academics, and the military. The classroom auto insurance discount course is video-based and is offered in many different locations throughout the U.S.

Our online auto insurance discount courses were developed with the goal of keeping the attention of the student, so don't expect a DTA course to put you to sleep with page after page of boring statistics and rehashed material from the driver's handbook.

Both our online and classroom auto insurance discount courses are an excellent way for companies to provide reliable fleet training to their employees who drive company vehicles. The use of our courses for fleet training can result in reduction of losses and decreased corporate insurance rates.

Florida Auto Insurance Discount

Florida law (§627.06501, Florida Statutes) allows a driver to attend a Florida auto insurance discount (i.e. traffic school) course voluntarily to obtain a discount of up to 10% off his or her automobile insurance premium. Since this law does not require a mandatory discount, the person who wishes to attend the course must first check with his or her automobile insurance company to make sure the auto insurance discount is available for 4-hour Basic Driver Improvement course attendance. If you obtain permission from your insurer to take DTA's insurance discount course for this purpose, you can sign up to take the class either online or in a classroom.

The Florida auto insurance discount course can also be taken for a Florida traffic ticket! Florida law (§626.9541) states that if a driver receives a ticket for a moving violation and completes a Basic Driver Improvement course (i.e. traffic school or the insurance discount course), that driver's auto insurer cannot cancel his or her policy, raise his or her automobile insurance rate, or non-renew the policy. NOTE: This law does not apply if a driver was at fault in a crash.
