More Florida Traffic Tickets for Lakeland Red Light Runners
We are fairly certain that the city of Lakeland, Florida will soon be handing out more traffic tickets to drivers, as new cameras are being installed on several local traffic signals to catch red light runners. The cameras, which are part of a “red light camera project,” should be active in June, 2009, according to Assistant Chief Bill LePere of the Lakeland Police Department.
The first tickets issued to Lakeland red light runners who are caught by the cameras should begin going out in June. The LPD has stated its intention to inform the public as to where the cameras will be located in hopes that drivers will take the hint and avoid running red lights at those locations.
Cameras will be placed at the following intersections:
- Northbound Socrum Loop Road @ E. Daughtery Road/Walt Loop Road
- Westbound E. Daughtery Road/Walt Loop Road @ Socrum Loop Road
- Southbound Socrum Loop Road @ E. Daughtery Road/Walt Loop Road
- Northbound Socrum Loop Road @ Old Combee Road
- Southbound Socrum Loop Road @ Old Combee Road
- Northbound N. Florida Avenue @ Memorial Blvd.
- Northbound S. Florida Avenue @ Beacon Road
- Northbound Cleveland Heights Blvd @ E. Edgewood Drive
- Southbound Cleveland Heights Blvd @ E. Edgewood Drive
We hope that the installation of these cameras at some of Lakeland’s busiest intersections will help save lives, as side-impact collisions result in a large number of traffic fatalities each year. For more information about the red light camera project, visit the Inside Lakeland PD blog.
Drivers who do get ticketed will, of course, have to pay a fine, but thankfully they can keep the points off their license by attending a Basic Driver Improvement course.
